While the World Burns

Hello beautiful souls!

Things in the US, and to a lesser extent in other parts of the world, are looking worse every day. Hatred is running the show, getting louder and meaner, and being directed towards more and more people. The fear is palpable; whenever I venture onto one of the SM platforms, I can feel how scared and upset people are and it is unsettling.

Thankfully, people are also beginning to get angry; not at each other, but at those who are supposed to be their leaders. They are angry at the illegal actions being perpetrated by FOTUS, Felonious Musk, and their ilk. They are angry that there is not enough being done to oppose these so~called leaders. They are angry that the country is being dragged back to the middle of last century. Ordinary people are getting ready to resist, to fight back.

Why does this affect me, in the UK? Because I am scared for my US friends and community members. I am concerned that other countries will follow the (bad) example being set by the US. Hate speech and crimes are on the rise elsewhere, and far~right groups and politicians are getting louder and bolder every damned day. I don’t want to live in a world where hate is winning. I don’t want to live in a world where everyone who is not a straight white male is treated as less than human.

So I continue to give comfort and support, to find links and resources that may be helpful, to put together information that may be needed. I am currently working on a guide for those who are considering protesting, with tips from people who have protested in the past and know how best to go about it. There’s so much misinformation (apparently some especially bad/dangerous tips are coming from TikTok) and not enough sensible, practical advice. If this is a path that you are going to be taking, make sure you do it as safely as possible and have researched the things you may face during a protest.
